Project:

Commercial Cooler Addition for Texas Roadhouse

Location: West Haven, CT

Square Footage: 447 sq. ft. addition to existing 8,022 sq. ft. building

When Texas Roadhouse needed extra cold storage in West Haven, CT, Team VMC stepped in to deliver. This restaurant commercial construction project involved a 447-square-foot rear addition to the existing 8,000+ square-foot restaurant, focused on expanding their walk-in cooler and freezer capacity.

We started by carefully creating new openings in the rear wall of the building. That meant selective demolition—removing existing brick, framing, and finishes—while protecting everything outside our scope. At the same time, we prepped for new foundations and installed insulated concrete slabs based on strict structural and geotechnical guidelines.

Once the slab was complete, we framed out the new cooler and freezer space. Each wall was built with thermal efficiency in mind using insulated panels. Meanwhile, our exterior team got to work matching the building’s original look by installing cedar siding and brick veneer, helping the addition blend in like it’s always been there.

On the roof, new condensing units were mounted and tied into the building’s systems. Then, our electrical crew installed a dedicated panel, ran wiring, and added lighting inside the new cold storage spaces. We coordinated closely with both refrigeration and roofing contractors to keep everything moving smoothly.

We also handled plumbing—connecting condensate drains and storm lines as required. And just like that, we turned a dirt lot into a fully functional walk-in cooler addition.

From start to finish, our crew kept restaurant operations in mind, minimizing disruptions while keeping the project on track. Our team worked with urgency and professionalism to restore all affected finishes and complete the work safely and efficiently. This was another successful restaurant commercial construction project that proves VMC knows how to build cold—fast.
